Overview:
The Royal Winnipeg Rifles were given the daunting task of capturing the well-fortified southern hangars at Carpiquet. Their initial approach was met and repulsed by fierce resistance from SS-Panzer-Division 12 "Hitlerjugend." Leading the SS troops at Carpiquet was SS-Standartenführer Kurt "Panzermeyer" Meyer, a tough, experienced veteran of the Eastern Front who had already made his mark on the division after only three weeks in command. There was little time to celebrate the morning's successful defense. From the entrance of a concrete pillbox, Meyer observed the Royal Winnipegs forming up for a second attack, this time heavily reinforced with armor.Attacker: Canadian (Royal Winnipeg Rifles, 8th Infantry Brigade, Canadian 3rd Division and 10th Armoured Regiment (Fort Garry Horse))
