Overview:
To regain ground lost each day to German assaults, the Russian forces in Stalingrad frequently counterattacked at night. On October 29th, one of these counterattacks continued into the morning of the following day. STAVKA had several objectives to retake that had been lost the previous day. The Russian hope was to improve the morale of hastily recruited reinforcements coming from the east side of the Volga, and to improve the chances of a general attack, planned to occur the following day, in the nearby sector of the Red October industrial complex. Not surprisingly, the Germans had different plans and called up the 651st Pioneer Battalion, to repulse the counterattack and if possible, make further gains toward the Volga, with an atttack of their own.Attacker: Russian (120th Guards Rifle Regiment, 39th Guards Rifle Division and, 10th Rifle Regiment, 45th Rifle Division with 84th Tank Brigade)
