Overview:
After previous offensives by the Spanish Nationalists had failed, the Italians, under the command of General Mario Roatta, planned to attack Madrid from the north-east. After joining the "Madrid" corp on the Jarama River, they would begin the assault on Madrid. The Italian forces would execute the main attack, using the roads leading to Guadalajara. Moving in this manner would allow for greater manuevere for the Motorized Infantry and "Armor". After an initial success, the advance against the positions of the XI and XII International Brigades, was stopped, some 3 km before reaching the town of Torija. Soon the Republican counterattack began, supported by T-26 and BT-5 light tanks, attacking through mud and heavy mist, against the Italian tankettes that were trying to stop them.Attacker: Republican (1.a Brigada Blindada (Kombrig D.
