Overview:

After fighting through the outer Russian defenses for a week, the soldiers of the bloodied 132nd Infantry Division were ready to assault the Bastion and Maxim Gorki I proper. These two positions were the keys to the Russian defense on the south-side of Sevastopol and had to be taken at all costs. The landsers of the 132nd knew what they were facing; they had suffered the wrath of Maxim Gorki's four 12" naval rifles since November 1941 ... and resistance continued after 10 days of bombardment from everything the Wehrmacht and the Luftwaffe could throw at the fort. The pounding did cause damage, but even after the hurricane of fire Maxim Gorki still sent 12" shells down-range and into German lines. A pre-dawn infiltration attack by engineers and storm troopers was able to gain a toehold in the outer defenses of the Bastion. As siege guns pounded through the night the men of the 132nd reinforced by the 22nd Infantry Division, and other forces, prepared to assault the fortified hills.
