Overview:

After many attacks across the Belbek Valley had bled the132nd Infantry Division white, the 213th Infantry Regiment was released from corps reserve to bolster the attack. Reinforced by engineers and sappers, the 213th launched a night attack along the spine of the Maxim Gorki ridge. After breaking through the initial Russian defenses, both sides engaged in heavy close-in fighting in the rubble of the garrison barracks and the twisted remains of the overhead ammunition crane. When dawn broke through the smoke-filled skies, the remaining men of the 213th Regiment were no longer rested and fresh. But they had gained a toehold in the Bastion for their efforts and blood. Another day of intense fighting would be required to clear the Bastion.
