On the previous day, the jagers of the 28th Light Division had tried to crack the first lines of Russian defense east of Balaklava. The fighting had been intense for hillocks known as Vermillion Hills, and the Germans had managed to gain a toehold within the Russian defense. On June 5th, the jagers turned their attention to a more massive hill, known as Schulzbacher Hill, in order to enhance their position but the men holding the hill were none other than the NKVD, and they would prove a tough nut to crack.Attacker: German (Jäger-Regiment.83, 28.Jäger-Division)
