The Germans 2nd Army formed the northern pincer pushing south through the Silesian-Moravian countryside with the aim of linking up with the 14th Army fighting its way north. General von Rundstedt enjoyed a brief window of clear weather on the eve of the invasion, allowing for the deployment of his untested parachute and glider troops, who were tasked with destroying bunkers and casemates guarding the gates to Opava, and seizing several bridges over the flooded Opava River, assisted by irregulars and saboteurs who had crossed the border days before in civilian guise, laying low until the invasion began.Attacker: German (Freikorps Ebbinghaus Kommando, 15th Engineer Company, Fallschirmjäger Regiment General Goering and 3rd Panzer Division)
