Overview:

The 11th Armoured Division was advancing through Germany in early April 1945 and making fast progress when, arriving at the small town of Tecklenburg, they met unexpected resistance from the local inhabitants fiercely led by the NCO’s of the Hannover battle school. Fighting was hard and stiff resistance was put up by the fanatical Germans. “It was the first and only village in which civilians took a significant part and the only one where they had to be shot or taken prisoner.”

2026-07-10(D) Lee Hyde vs Grant Hewitt German winFun game which went to British T5, with the British in a winning position having inflicted casualties and gained enough multi hex Buildings to cross the points total needed, if retained til Game End. German T4 ended with a CC which turned into a disaster with the loss of an Elite Squad, HMG and a Squad of residents despatched with a snake eyes from the British. The Germans were on 15CVP, so were only 3 Pts from Victory themselves, but if they gained those points before game end, it was an automatic defeat for the British. British T5 was cautiously played with disengagements along the lines to avoid gifting any unnecessary casualties, with only one British Leader with two Full Squads occupying a Building almost surrounded by Germans. One German position was smothered in Mortar Smoke, so made almost ineffectual for DF purposes. This prompted a Dash attempt to extricate the British, with the first Squad successfully getting away despite desultory incoming fire. The Second squad attempted the same, but Residual fire gave a 1-2 shot, with a 3DR resulting in a KIA, and 2pts for the Germans. Finally the 8-0 Leader, but he too was caught with a MC which he failed, leaving him broken in hex with not quite enough dashing elan for a British Officer. A final DF gave the Germans a Snake Eyes, with the Officer dying with a straight KIA, and the winning CVP total for the Germans. Victory snatched from the jaws of defeat.
Highly recommend this Dispatches scenario, although it was so frustrating with so much Smoke not only being available but also so often placed when needed, that the Germans were hard pressed at times. Three Comets were taken out by the Germans, but each only counted as 2 Pts as CVP only counted for Infantry and/or PRC, so just the crew for vehicles.
Well played to Grant, and another fun game completed and a reminder, even a lost game can be won with another read of the VC's.
2026-01-24(D) Rob MacGinley vs Vic Rosso British winVic played a slow and steady advance with no sudden rush forward until the line had broken
I never got close to using PFs on Tanks - he was so conservative - I should have used them on buildings more
2026-01-11(D) Jason Wert vs Cliff Welsh German win
2025-11-07(A) Indy Lagu vs Rob Oler British winNot much to say about this one...my Brits just ground the
Germans down. By German turn 6, they had suffered lots of
and the Brits had enough buildings that could not be retaken.
