Overview:
In the four days since the Salerno landings, Allied casualties had been high as they beat back repeated German counterattacks. The fighting raged on in the hills above Albanella, but as Monday dawned the rest of the VI Corps' beachhead was relatively quiet. That quiet was about to be shattered, however, as four powerful German kampfgruppen moved into position to assault. Panzer-Division 16 was ordered to recapture the tobacco factory and to pin and trap the American 45th Infantry Division on the north side of the river Sele so it could be destroyed at leisure later.Attacker: German (Bataillon I, Panzergrenadier-Regiment 79 and Panzer-Abteilung 2, Panzer-Regiment 2, Panzer-Division 16)
