Overview:
With the defeat at Wadi Akarit, the Axis force withdrew to the next defense line. One of the anchors of this line was the Takrouna Hill, from which much of the front could be overlooked. The hill was fortified as much as possible and a battalion from the Trieste Division supported by German troops were set to defend it. Montgomery ordered the 5th New Zealand Brigade to take the hill with a frontal assault but this was repulsed with heavy casualties.
