Overview:
The first attempt on 20 February to reach City Hall had failed. A second attempt the next day met with similar results. Beginning just before dawn on 22 February, a heavy barrage of 155mm and 105mm artillery and 81mm and 4.2-inch mortars-accompanied by direct fire from tanks, tank destroyers, and 155mm guns emplaced a couple hundred meters from the City Hall-pummeled every inch of the building and surrounding grounds. When the shelling and gunfire lifted the entire eastern wing of the City Hall was reduced to a pile of rubble and smoldering debris. Now, it would be up to the infantrymen of 3rd Battalion to secure what was left.Attacker: American (Company I, 3rd Battalion, 145th Infantry Regiment, 136th Field Artillery Battalion, 37th Infantry Division and 754th Tank Battalion)
