Overview:
The US Army needed a bridgehead over the River Saar to continue its advance into Germany. All bridges had been destroyed except for one and it had been rigged for demolition. In a bold attempt to seize the bridge intact, using assault boats under cover of early morning fog and rain, Lt. Col. Tobias Philbin led a crossing of the river where it looped behind the bridge to take the defenders by surprise.Attacker: American (Company B, 1st Battalion, 379th Infantry Regiment and Company C, 320th Combat Engineer Battalion)
