Overview:
Leadership of Strongpoint E was assigned to Lt. Lagasse de Locht of the 7th Company. Lagasse assembled his platoon in their billet area at Sussen, some kilometers away from the bridge. After the first alert of an enemy attack had been fired by the guns at Fort Eben Emael, the platoon halted briefly near the Battalion's HQ, then headed towards their assigned strongpoint. The de Locht's men were soon caught by surprise by an extremely dense volume of German machine- pistol fire. The well-camouflaged German paratroopers were positioned at the entrance of the sunken roads leading to the Kanne bridge. In a few short minutes, the Belgian platoon had lost cohesion for the most part, and none of its elements ever reached their strongpoint position.Attacker: Belgian (Elements of Platoon Lagasse, 2nd Grenadiers)
