Overview:
Technical Sgt. Coolidge and his machinegun platoon, most of which were new replacements, had dug in on Hill 623. There were no officers with him, so Sgt. Coolidge had assumed command. Coolidge and his men had endured three days of counterat-tacks from German infantry trying to retake the hill. During this time, Coolidge went on encouraging his men and directing their fire to repulse the Germans. On the fourth day, the Germans brought in two tanks to assist in retaking the hill.Attacker: German (Elements of 933rd Grenadier Regiment)
