During the Soviet winter counteroffensive, Zhukov sought to encircle Army Group Center through inserting Guards cavalry, airborne and partisan units into the rear areas of Hoth’s 4th Army and 4th Panzer Army, thereby cutting their highway and railroad supply lines and capturing the logistical centers of Vi-az’ma and Iukhnov. Hitler ordered all units to stand fast as all costs through turning every hamlet into a strongpoint.
A skilful defence as always from my opponent but with so many Russian / Partisan units they just keep coming and the Germans were overwhelmed by T6

Russian attacked carefully and methodically and suffered few losses at the beginning. German fire was alternately atrocious and vicious. HMG broke fairly early, partly compensated by an 8-1 BH and going heroic; MMG gave good service to the end. Managed to beat the hordes back repeatedly in the south for about four turns, but they just kept coming back, and eventually five German squads found themselves in a FtR bottleneck and had to surrender. In the north the hordes were beaten back for a couple of turns, but the pressure was one-sided and gradually the defenders were ground to pulp. Reinforcements did some good and took out some attackers, but it was too little to stem the tide. All over by end of turn 6.

As the Russian, I received the worst beating of my ASL career! The 4 German fortified buildings and the VC of controlling ALL building years on both boards proved insurmountable for the Russians. The only German casualties were a squad and a SMC killed in close combat by the partisans!
