Overview:
The vanguard of the 9th Canadian Infantry Brigade was stopped at Authie by intense enemy fire. After digging in around the village, the men of "C" Company saw tanks and infantry approaching them from the east, toward their exposed left flank. Through the smoke of battle, the Highlanders at first thought that these were Canadian forces as no armoured enemy units were known to be in the area. The crack of cannon fire into their positions identified this force as enemy. With their armoured support leading, the fanatic young troopers of the 12th S Panzer Division (Hitler Jugend) charged forward through the waist high grain. This was their first battle and the youngsters were eager to prove themselves in combat.Attacker: German (SS) (III Battalion, 25th SS Panzer Grenadier Regiment and H Battalion, 12th SS Panzer Division)
