Overview:

Army Group North's advance was threatening to isolate Leningrad. Recently transferred from Army Group Center, General der Panzertruppe Rudolf Schmidt's XXXIX Armeekorps was driving hard towards Volkhov. One of Schmidt's divisions, Infanterie-Division (mot.) 20, captured the city of Mga on 29 August. Reinforces by the 1st NKVD Rifle Division, the Soviet 48th Army retook Mga on 30 August, only to be thrown back out the next day. On 2 September, the 48th Army attacked yet again, looking to recapture the Mga Railroad Station. Control of the railroad was critical, as it was the last direct rail line through which supplies flowed to Leningrad. The assault would be carried out by a battalion of the 1st NKVD Rifle Division reinforced by two tank companies and a brigade of mountain troops.
Attacker: Russian (NKVD) (2nd Battalion, 2nd NKVD Regiment, 1st NKVD Rifle Division with 1st Separate Mountain Rifle Brigade)
Defender: German (Infanterie-Regiment (mot.) 90, Infanterie-Division (mot,) 20)

2026-01-18(A) Lee Hyde vs Micha Knarr Russian (NKVD) winA little rash to begin with as the Russian T26 Platoon was eliminated in T1 when they approached the German 50AT a little too closely as it went into a near perfect Rate Tear destroying all three leaving two in flames. Another KV found itself bogged risking a debries hex, ultimately becoming mired, so not an auspicious start. A methodical infantry slog and purchased Russian 5SAN eventually battled through whittling the German defenders down. Their 50AT proved heroic until succumbing to a boxcars in German T4, both AC's falling in the same turn, one to a Sniper the other to an LMG TH roll, prompting the Germans to finally concede as losses mounted.
2025-05-24(A) Dave Mareske vs Dennis Dowd Russian (NKVD) winThe Germans setup too far back and the NKVD was able to drive them out and take up secure positions to hold off the Germans trying to counterattack. Lots of rubble made LOS very difficult on the Germans and allowed multiple approaches albeit slowly.
2025-01-23(A) Robert Wiebe vs German Russian (NKVD) win

(VASL Log)
3.33 hrsGerman set up forward and had a decent first turn, but then seemed incapable of shooting Russians. Overwhelming assault firing 527s, coupled with NKVD 628s on top of that, saw the German pushed back out of the VC area. Game ended on the Russian Turn 5.

2024-10-31(D) Camille Garek vs Xavier VITRY Russian (NKVD) win
