Overview:

During the retreat of the North Luzon Force to Bataan in the last days of 1941, two recently mobilized reserve divisions of the Philippine Army took up temporary defensive positions astride the Concepcion-Magalang Road along the so-called D-5 Line. The 21st Infantry Division held the western flank, while the 11th Infantry Division held the road and the eastern flank. Their orders were to repel any attacks until the night of January 1st-2nd, then resume their withdrawal southward. In the afternoon of New Year’s Day, a Japanese force struck the 11th Division’s left flank along the road in an attempt to rout the defenders by a coup de main.

2022-11-04(A) Shane Pask vs Japanese winMy start was not aggressive enough and let the .50 cal hold up my advance. My first T-H hero failed to reach his target but absorbed so much fire before being wounded that the rest of that flank made it past. For most of the game, I thought I had no chance (forget exiting off the south edge!) including losing two CC - one at 2-1 odds in my favour and one where I had the ambush. I did not break any Philippines until turn 5 but had destroyed both GMC - I flamed the first one in CC after it had been stunned, immobilised and malfed. My last mortar with smoke placed a couple of screens on the last turn to allow me to capture two buildings to give me a one point victory.
