Overview:

The Paris uprising started on 19 August 1944. Like Warsaw, Hitler immediately ordered the City to be destroyed. The battle quickly developed into a draw. The Forces Françaises de I'Intérieur (FFI) Partisans had captured many municipal buildings and several important cultural landmarks. However, the German Garrison was secure in a series of strong points around the city and could mount attacks with mobile battle groups. On the morning of 23rd August, a German Battle Group made an attack on the Grand Palais, which was occupied by the FFI Partisans.
