Tension between China and Japan over Manchuria was increasing. The deteriorating situation prompted the Japanese to order Chinese puppet forces under their control to move on Harbin, but these forces were defeated. Simultaneously, Japanese forces attacked from the south and conquered hundreds of miles of territory and destroyed several Chinese formations en route to Harbin. General Chao, along with others, formed the Jilin Defense Army in order to prevent the fall of the city. They asked for civilian volunteers, who came out in strength to add to the number of regulars, and the Jilin Defense Army soon totaled over 30,000. This army represented the last significant Chinese force remaining in Manchuria. Meanwhile, the Japanese 2nd Division with attached armor was ordered to rescue the Chinese puppet forces and attack Harbin.

Japs ran on mostly unopposed from the east and west. There's not much the Chinese can do to stop them, though a 1st level unit might be wise to at least strip Japanese concealment. A couple lucky AFPh shots ended up disrupting a conscript and breaking a 337. Turn 2 saw the western defenders retreating in force, while in the east a conscript hung tight defending the wall. He would be rounded up as a POW on Turn 3 as the Jap wave poured into the factory, while in the west almost all Chinese defenders retreated (once again) to the final bastion. Japs babied their vehicles, as one Chinese gun had yet to be discovered. Turn 4 saw more Chinese conscripts rounded up and captured, while the Japs patiently positioned themselves in the western woods, wondering just how they would take care of the INF gun looking them in the face. Meanwhile in the east the Jap tanks got braver, rolling up to try and deal with the HMG nest guarding the crossroads. But the Jap sniper had been active for a while, and when it broke the INF crew it made the troops' job that much easier in the west. After uncovering the other gun in the east, I finally let loose those underrated 97AA trucks. Their 3 RoF is awesome, and I overheated three of their guns after going on rate tears. Time was beginning to run short though, and the Chinese still had a lot of units left in both VC buildings. OBA helped soften up the west, while banzais and tanks helped all but wrap up the eastern building on Turn 6. Turn 7 officially put that building to bed after the sole remaining Chinese squad was encircled and broken, while in the west a mass of troops eliminated all but a single wounded Chinese leader. The ending seemed a bit anticlimactic for what was otherwise a very fun and tense game.

Japanese win
Damon suggested we play through the B&J scenarios in order, so we started here! I found this one challenging as the defender - didn't take as many shots as I usually would on defense, since as soon as I dropped concealment, that unit was destroyed by swarming Japanese squads and vehicles. Didn't do nearly enough damage with my guns - first one broke very early and second one only got a few shots off. HMG also broke which didn't help, but I don't think it would have made much difference - he had plenty of guys left to swarm my final building location - called it in turn 6 when I had one HS/Leader/HMG against many squads and all of his vehicles.

Japanese win
The Chinese took their opponent to the last turn, but lost in CC. The Chinese Guns and the HMGs did not perform well, but kept the Japanese at bay. Japanese truck use was great. Almost made the CVP cap, but fell short.

Japanese win
Not quite sure how the Chinese have won so frequently on this map, mainly because my support weapons failed to achieve much success, large FP shots were shrugged aside by many Japanese squads, and Guns that failed to do anything but jam and break. The Chinese player should avoid the top part of the map, lest they want to have some squads sit around with idle hands.
