Overview:

In the early hours of May 13, Rommel pushed units of his Panzer-Division 7 across the Meuse River in the vicinity of Dinant, where they clung to a shaky foothold. While infantry were able to cross on boats, Rommel's tanks would have to cross on a ferry until a bridge could be built. That evening, under cover of darkness, Schutzen-Regiment 7 succeeded in reaching Onhaye where it overran several French positions. The next morning Rommel received a wireless transmission which proclaimed Schutzen-Regiment 7 was "encircled". Rommel, fearing for the safety of his tenuous foothold, ordered Panzer-Regiment 25 to take every available tank and race to their aid.

2025-04-13(A) Vic Lauterbach vs JM German winI drew the attacking Germans in this Meuse crossing breakout scenario. My plan anticipated a battle for buildings V6 and V7. I sent a platoon to cross the footbridge and hopefully threaten building 42V1 and everything else went for the south edge. As always, the French infantry were incredibly tough to break, but CC went my way early, and the Panzers dashed past a 25LL into the 59V5 orchard where they dispatched both tankettes and hit the rowhouses with their MGs. This game was close. The margin of victory was one knocked-out Panzer!
Jim: My setup was based on Vic passing up the obvious south attack and hitting the center. That error forced me to push both ATGs to new positions and move MMC. I counted on the 10-2 directed MMG in 59V6L1 and the CMGs of the AMR33 tankettes keeping 467s from crossing the stream south of the bridge and the 25LL in 59R8 keeping the Panzers at bay. It worked until turn 5 when I suddenly couldn't hit anything and Vic's HMG went on a ROF tear breaking the 10-2 and 458 w/MMG. (One the last shot, it malf'd as always!) Both rowhouses in turn 7 with me 4 CVP short of the cap. Good game overall!
