Overview:

As the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry battled for the Goch-Kalkar road, they were worried about their right flank, with good reason. Elements of the Essex Scottish Regiment were hanging on their by the skin of their teeth. Although they had successfully taken their initial objectives on D-Day, they had been isolated since then, continuously surrounded by the Germans, and had not been heard from HQ for almost two days. Finally, in the early morning hours of 21 February, despite not having any orders to do so, Major McIntyre of “A” Company decided to withdraw. As they started to pull back, the Germans launched an attack.

2026-02-22(A) Vic Lauterbach vs JM German winI got the Windhund Germans in this Operation Veritable clash, so I moved north on both flanks. My plan to get behind (north of) the Canadians then fire starshells to illuminate targets for my MGs. The PzJg IV took a few shots but it's more valuable exiting. In the end, fewer German MMC broke, so I pushed 28 exit CVP off the board for the win. Jim: In turn 2, I reinforced a melee in P1 and the disastrous result was two lost 457s and a PIAT. German fire fatally wounded my 8-1 and CR'd a 447 after they blew ELR and routed out of foxhole S4. After that, the fight was mostly getting shot moving across illuminated OG. Basically, I was outflanked, and the 'no exit until turn 5' limit on the British (SSR 3) gave Vic time to block and break my retreating HS. The key to this game was E1.54 which severely limits your ability to move MMC north. This one was interesting but not much fun.
