Overview:

The Soviet invasion of Poland on 17 September caught the Polish defenses in the east undermanned and unprepared, with the bulk of Polish forces already facing the Germans. Komandarm Mikhail Kovalyov's Belorussian Front cut through the border fortifications and drove toward Wilno, the administrative and industrial hub of northeast Poland. Responsibility for the defense of the city fell to the Korpus Ochrony Pogranicza (KOP), the Border Protection Corps, along with the local volunteer militia. The defenders numbered 15,000, but only 6,500 were armed. Taking matters into their own hands, the civilian populace began a "Molotov Program," producing over 1,000 incendiary cocktails. Led by the 6th Tank Brigade, the Soviets pushed deep into the city. The battered remnants of KOP Battalion "Troki" joined militia units for a desperate last stand in defense of the vital Wilia River bridges.

Hugh did an excellent job of a fighting withdrawl!!
Should have risked teh tanks with sleeze freeze earlier and taken the bridges

2026-01-29(D) Andy Bagley vs Neil Brunger Polish winGreat scenario, exciting and very close game. I set up most of my Polish defenders south of the canal, with just a couple to the north to disrupt the Russian advance. I used the roadblock to block one bridge and the wire around the other.
Things started well, and I got a couple of Russian tanks early on, but others crushed all the wire on their first attempts, leaving his infantry free to cross that bridge. I then realised that the Russians win IMMEDIATELY if they control all victory hexes, so no chance to counterattack if they did so.
In fact the Russians managed to control all victory hexes, but not all at the same time! I recapture the roadblocked bridge before he could advance across the other, then was fortunate to destroyed the tank that could have completed the Russian victory, at which point my opponent conceded. Could easily have gone the other way with different DRs.
2025-11-29(D) Will Willow vs Randy Shurtz Russian win
