Overview:

By Christmas, both the Allied and German commands realized the momentum in the Ardennes had shifted, requiring new strategies as the year ended. General Willard Paul's 26th In- 68 fantry Division was ordered to attack from southeast of Bastogne on 2 January, aiming to cut the Wiltz-Bastogne highway, The 26th Division had already gained harsh experience fighting through hills, ravines, dense woods, and snowdrifts with limited space for movement so the 2nd Battalion, 101st Infantry Regiment was chosen to lead the assault, advancing in a column of companies into the area around Hill 490.

by forgetting to entrench anyone at start. I think that, had I been thinking,
it would have delayed Rob's Germans by at least a turn.

That difference might have made a difference.

Rob played his typical methodical attack. The Germans have a strong
defence at start, but once the shell cracks, things can end quickly.

I'd happily play this one again!
2026-04-24(D) Jason Nichols vs Rob MacGinley German winRob capitulated at DFPh of German T2 due to malfunctioning the MA on one of his tanks. His infantry had taken a beating during the first and second DFPh's resulting in multiple breaks. He also found the minefields resulting in multiple casualties. The German 81mm mortar was able to suppress his kill stacks and a sniper attack killed the leader and broke the crew servicing his 60mm mortar. All-in-all a solid defence from the Germans, aided by good dice rolls.
