Overview:
Operation Varsity. the airborne phase of Plunder, would include the British 6th Airborne Division "Red Devils" commanded by Major General Eric L. Bols and the U.S. 17th Airborne Division "Thunder From Heaven" commanded by Major General William "Bud" Miley, in the largest airborne drop made in a single day. The Douglas C-47 and Curtiss C-46 transport aircraft were poised and ready. The gliders were neatly placed on the runways, awaiting connection to their tugs. All awaited the coded signal to go: "Two if by Sea".Attacker: American (A Company, 1st Battalion and G Company, 2nd Battalion, 507th Regimental Combat Team, 17th Airborne Division)

| 2025-08-15 | (D) Tim Reade | vs | Dave Mareske | German win (VASL Log) | Dave and I played this in 2nd round the ASL Scenario Archive VASL tournament as a pre-release playtest version - which as far as I can tell is unchanged in the action pack, hence me reporting this playing here. This was a close game in the end, which part way through looked like an easy German victory, but a swing back to the Americans mid-game cretaed a tense finish. I was able to rout away in the last player turn, invoking the SSR, to take the result out of Dave's reach, with a handful of CC's (all in his favour) that would have otherwise decided the game. Tense game, exciting finish, great opponent. |
