Overview:

The Tali-Ihantala battles raged for 5 days. Intense combat continued on 29 June as the Finns retreated to form a new defensive line. The Finn counterattacks were not successful in surrounding the Russian forces, but were successful in slowing the advance. This allowed reinforcements from East Karelia time to redeploy and establish new defenses. The 6th Division took over the center of the line at Ihantala. The Russians planned to attack Ihantala directly but this plan was thwarted by Finnish artillery. An early morning attack was led by LTC Yudin in an ISU-152 from the 394th Guards Heavy SP Artillery Regiment. He pleaded for other tanks and the infantry to join in. These forces could not, as they were pounded by the Finn artillery. Yudin was recklessly aggressive, and on his own, commanding the lone vehicle, destroyed some anti-tank guns and firing positions south of Inhantala, and was wounded during the action.
