Overview:
Just before the war, the 10th Cavalry Brigade, completely motorized under the lead of Colonel Maczek, was tasked to secure the flanks of the Crakow Army in the south of Carkhov and in the Karpath Mountains. In the field since mid-August, it faced the German 2.Panzer-Division and I.Gebirgsjäger-Division. It was assisted in this task by a Border and National Guard Battalion. To oppose a strong German armored unit, Polish forces organized their defense on Wysoka Mountain.
