Overview:
On 10 April, Major General Philip "Pip" Roberts was directed to attack on the VIII Corps' left to seize Bergen-Belsen with his 11th Armoured Division. This required securing the bridges across the Aller River, a mission assigned to Brigadier Derek Mills-Roberts 's attached 1st Commando Brigade, Overcoming light German resistance, Lieutenant Colonel Alfred L. Blake's 45 Royal Marine Commando crossed the damaged railroad bridge and dug in east of Hadensdorf (in an area known as the Banseeberg) where it established a bridgehead 500 yards north of the Aller. AT 1040 hours Korvettenkapitän Josef Gördes (commanding the Marine-Füslier Bataillon 2, Marine-Infanterie Division 2) lead the German counterattack against 45 Commando which was defending 1st Command Brigade's left flank. Supporting the counterattack were two Jagdpanzer IV/70s, some halftracks and PSW 222 armored cars from Panzer Kompanie Hache.Attacker: German (Kompanie 1, Marine-Füsllier Bataillon 2, Marine-Infantrie Division 2 and Kampfgruppe Hache)
