Overview:
The 551st Volksgrenadier (originally Grenadier) Division was sent to defend the eastern front but had been given the impossibly long 42 km sector. When the Red Army launched their offensive to cutoff Courland, many of the 551st strongpoints were quickly overrun. Hauptmann Licht and his Kampfgruppe was a notable exception. He was able to hold off the first couple of Russian waves, made up of largely conscripted men from recently liberated areas. But more were coming. Rittmeister Schröder and his Grossdeutschland Auflärung Battalion was sent to support Hauptmann Licht.Attacker: Russian (6th Guards Division and 5th Guards Tank Division)
