Overview:
On November 18, 1944, once the front had been broken in the Vosges, General de Lattre launched his divisions towards Alsace and the Rhine. The next day, the RICM was subordinated to the 1st DB and was given the mission of scouting the armored division marching towards the river. However, the Couturier detachment (3rd squadron reinforced by elements of the RCCC) encountered strong opposition around Suarce and did not manage to break through the following day. Isolated, without support, Captain Couturier resolved to hold the village with inadequate means in the face of an enemy that was growing stronger.Attacker: German (Elements of Grenadier-Regiment.305 and schwere Panzerjager-Abteilung.654)
