Overview:
As the Commonwealth forces were being driven from southern Burma, the Chinese Army began moving into Burma. General James Scott, commanding the 1st Burma Division, had his Headquarters in the town of Tuanggyi. From this strategic location, his forces guarded the key chokepoint city of Toungoo with its railroad junction and main road leading north to Mandalay. Tuanggyi also sat astride the route from Thailand into the Chinese Shan states. Toungoo would be handed over to the Chinese forces as a base for their area of operations. In order to screen Chiang Kai-shek’s troop movements, General Scott sent the 1st Burma Brigade along with the 13th Indian Brigade south following the eastern bank of the Sittang River.Attacker: Commonwealth (Indian) (2n Battalion, 7th Rajput Regiment, 13th Indian Brigade, 1st Burma Division)
