Overview:
The presence of the only remaining battleworthy unit of German 1 Armee, SS-Panzergrenadier-Division 17 "Götz von Berlichingen," plus imposing river obstacles, gave real substance to the new German line along the Jagst-Neckar crescent. In addition, 1 Armee commander General der Infanterie Hermann Foertsch had managed to accumulate a sizable conglomeration of other troops, including two battalions from an engineer school, several regular engineer battalions, replacement artillery and anti-aircraft units, Volkssturm, a few tanks and assault guns, and a miscellany-including several hundred Hitlerjugend-belonging to the combat commander of Heilbronn. These troops and remnants of four divisions, plus the panzergrenadiere, were all subordinated to Generalleutnant Max Bork's XIII Armeekorps.Attacker: American (100th Infantry Division and 824th Tank Destroyer Battalion)
