Once war was declared, Italy looked to expand its empire in East Africa by invading from Ethiopia northwards into British Somaliland. At the same time, Italian forces would drive west into the Sudan and south into Kenya and attempt to take the border posts at Gallabat and Moyale.

This scenario has second-line (hence they can cower!) British defending a fort, and is pretty-much a fixed defence with few options and little movement. My opponent chose what I think is probably the best strategy, with attacks from North and South complemented by a small force (with the mortars) coming in from the east. This gives the British a significant problem in that any units that break outside the fort may be prevented from routing by a LOS to some Italians the other side of the map.
I lost a couple of squads in that way, and was further hindered by my guys repeatedly cowering and – most serious of all – by Italian 6-morale squads that kept on passing MCs when fired on! So my shots at the advancing attackers were ineffective, and by Turn 3 they were at the gates of the fort.
Then came a crucial DR, the climax of the game. Could my 8-1 leader, stacked with two squads and a MMG, pass a 1 MC? If he could, and the squads made it, I’d have a 24 +1 shot against the adjacent Italians, and might be able to save the situation. So he rolls……..a 12! The squads broke too, and it was all over. Quite an interesting scenario, but one I’m unlikely to play more than once.

British win
Attacked three sides which worked well but got diced badly.
Fun situation for it’s size.

Italian win
Very unique - defending a special fort in the desert
Attacking from both sides the Italians wore the Brits down and down
Eventually with nowhere to go they surrendered
Straight out of the "French Foreign Legion" movies

British win
The British snipper won the Victoria Cross in this scenario. The Italians came in from three sides. Splitting the attack was not effective. The Italians made it up to the building, but never entered the door. Not much for the British to do except hold position and shoot.
