Overview:
The Allied invasion of Syria was underway, and in support of the Australian 7th Division pushing north from Palestine, British commandos landed along the coast to secure crossings on the road to Beirut. Despite a night landing, the Vichy French were waiting. Aftermath: The commandos captured the bridge but were driven off by Vichy armoured cars.
