Overview:

After two days of heavy fighting the French line was still nearly at the same place with the Soiry Farm acting as an anchor for the entire line. On the 17th the Germans tried again to take the farm and the woods near it by a frontal attack and by trying to encircle it from the south and east. The 'Bois de Soiry' (Soiry Woods) was about to earn a new nickname: 'sauerei wald' (messy woods), from a German battalion commanding officer.

2021-12-28(D) Richard Jenulis vs Dennis Hess French winThe pre-game bombardment fell mostly in empty hexes, as the French set up behind the lines. One of the first shots of the game was a well aimed sniper who took out the French phone operator. The German radio operator called in one fire mission before becoming a victim of the French HMG. After that, OBA played no role in the game. The Germans attacked in three separate fronts, North around HH12, Center, towards the Bois de Soiry, and South towards R23. The norther attack made steady progress. They stalled to clear a trench line HH12-HH13-II12 that was reenforced by the reserves. After the trench was cleared, the French fought a fighting withdrawal to a end line CC15-CC17-DD18. The attack on the center made good progress and was the Germans best chance to win. Only 2 French squads held the woods at game end. The Southern attack faced the toughest French resistance along the P24-W21 ridge line. The French pulled back on the last two turns to cover the southern trailhead, limited the German gains to only two hexes. This is a very fun scenario. IMO, the Germans should be favored provided they play aggressive.
