Overview:

With the main Japanese assault by Colonel Magata’s 1st and 3rd Battalions hitting the 37th Division’s 2nd Battalion, 129th Infantry Regiment, the Japanese sent recon in force down the Logging Trail by the lowlands near the hills which quickly erupted into violent firefights. After initial recon showed growing activity on both sides the Japanese sent increasingly larger probes amongst the main assaults on the nearby hills. Soon a major assault in the lowlands was underway.

2021-12-04(A) Vilis Pavulans vs Matias Dahlbäck American winHad rapid progress advancing through the djungle but also, as usual, taking casualties. This time leaders. Very good defence by the americans with a trenchline in the upper kunai, pillbox overseeing the trail. The gun was placed in the djungle which made it accessible and in turn 4 the gun was taken but then the losses were too great to capture the pillbox and to get units out. When a japanese stack went berserk and carried the FT and was forced to run over OG there was no chance any longer.

In our playing they just ground down the Japanese forces to only a few squads who were unable to achieve the required VCs. Plenty of action on only half a board
