Overview:
The fighting raged all across the Shanghai environs. In the district of Hongkew, the Chinese and the Japanese often exchanged attacks. The combatants would exchange positions, retaking the same ground several times before any consolidation could be made. However, whenever the Japanese were silent for a few days it was inevitable that the Chinese would attack. On this day, the Chinese attacked in strength with planes and tanks.Attacker: Chinese (56th Division and 2nd Tank Battalion)
Defender: Japanese (13th Division)

2023-07-12 | (D) Jobbo Fett | vs | xs-bombing | Chinese win | It came down to the last Japanese turn, but consistent ambushes in favor of the Chinese and dogged determination brought XS victory. We believe there must have been some voodoo magic involved judging by the number of doubles that were rolled for the attacker, and the relatively high results the Japanese would counter with. Altogether a fun scenario, with potential twists and turns depending on how well some of the support weapons do and how banzai's/human waves turn out!

2021-10-29 | (D) Kermit Mullins | vs | Scott Waites | Chinese win | My opponent wore my Japanese down as his dice were hot and mine were cold. Then his tanks moved with infantry at the northern cluster of buildings. My Japanese just couldn't hang and were quickly overcome. by Turn 5 it was all over and a Chinese win.
2021-02-06 | (D) Eric Topp | vs | Mark Dennehy | Japanese win | Chinese attacked in the north and took heavy losses in the orchards next to the road. The AFVs stayed in I9-H9-G9 for most of the game staying out of LOS of the AA. When Mark lost his 8-1 leader in a H-t-H Ambush on turn 4 he conceded.
2020-10-22 | (A) Eric Topp | vs | David Hallett | Chinese win | I played this scenario with my good friend and worthy opponent, David Hallett. David and I have played ASL for many years using the full rules but we both enjoy the simplicity of the Starter Kit scenarios. This was our second face-to-face game since the COVID-19 lockdown began earlier this year. Happily, the city of Canberra, where we both reside, has had no new cases for several months now. I chose to attack with the Chinese. Deciding that the southern flank was more lightly defended I concentrated my forces there with the remainder in the north. On turn 1, I moved my Vickers tanks adjacent to the N7 building to provide cover for my turn 2 "Chinese Banzai" (Human Wave in ASLRB) attack. This did not go as planned and I lost two squads. I then failed a 4:1 CC attack against a reduced Japanese squad leaving me with 2 1/2 squads and a leader locked in Melee. As expected, David took full advantage and placed a DC there on his next turn. My units all failed their MC and David's squad was able to eliminate them in CC the following turn. Despite this setback, I managed to run two squads around the back of the N7 building. These later captured the N3, L2 and M2 buildings. In the north, I captured the C5 and D3 buildings. This gave me the required number of VC buildings but I still had to survive a Japanese counterattack. My IFT dice came good at last and cut down the Banzai charge. I won one out of three final CC rolls but that was enough to decide the game in favour of the Chinese. I think if David had placed his AA in H1 to cover the rear I would not have won. |
