Overview:
Following the fire of a lone Turkish patrol, Russian General Myshlayevski cancelled his planned assault on the Turks. His soldiers were soon in retreat on 25 December. Not all pulled back, however. Some two thousand Russian troops, backed by two field guns held the outskirts of Sarakamish. The Turks, their own offensive planned, marched on the town from Kose and Otlu. Temperatures plunged, and as the Russians awaited the oncoming enemy, General Winter got to work as their ally as hundreds of Turks froze to death during the night. On 27 December, Turkish General Envers arrived at the front to press the attack.Attacker: Turks (3rd Army)
