Overview:
After two days of fighting, the 1st Baltic Front had penetrated the German defenses and reached the Western Dvina River along a broad front. The Russians established small bridgeheads on the western bank; however, crossing equipment was lagging behind. Makeshift means were used to get towed guns across the river. The Germans, realizing that the penetrations by the 1st Baltic and 3rd Belorussian Fronts threatened to cut off Vitebsk, prepared to commit all available forces to stop the Russians. On the morning of 25 June, the Russians continued to expand the bridgehead and search for possible crossing sites for armored vehicles.Attacker: German (Reinforced elements of Korps Detachment D)
