Overview:

During Operation Brevity, the first goal of the British offensive was Halfaya Pass, one of the only two passages in the border sector (the other was Sollum) from the coastal road through the escarpment. Halfaya Pass was also one key point of the Axis defensive line, guarded by a combined force of German and Italian infantry units with light and medium AT guns. The 2/Scots Guards Battalion supported by the Matildas of the 4th RTR had to accomplish the task. Around 7:00 AM, the attack began.
