Overview:

The conglomerate nation of Yugoslavia was formulated in the post-WWI power struggle to carve up the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Croatians, hoping to become an independent nation, were dissatisfied with being part of a government largely controlled by the Serbs. When the German assault began in April 1941, many Croats either threw away their arms, provided no resistance or surrendered en mass to the advancing German forces. In some areas, the Croats clashed with their former brothers-in-arms.

2022-11-22(D) Jeff B vs Joe Arthur Croatian win5 hrsThings started out poorly for me when I broke my MMG trying to knock out a tank, a front line LMG HS was busted, and my crew was bookended and encircled by the tanks after they passed their TCs. Then the first shot I took with the gun broke it, and I could not repair it because it was captured. Things didn't fare much better in the next turn, as I broke a LMG and my eastern border squad was busted by the Yugoslav kill stack. I was in the red for every category of dice I had rolled so far. The only one I hadn't rolled was CC. When I did I manage to kill a Croat HS with my crew in CC, and immobilize one of the tanks. I was able to extricate my 8-1 and a squad from the doomed M4 building. I broke my MMG for good on Turn 3, while my lone remaining front line holdout stuck in melee with the immobolized tank met his doom. We forgot to bring my planes on Turn 4, and they would've come in handy when the kill stack repositioned themselves to M4, so we decided to have them enter on Turn 5 and leave on Turn 7. I succeeded in dropping one of the big bombs on the kill stack on Turn 5, but did more harm than good when I turned the 8-1 heroic and create another one. I did manage to break a squad and LMG with that attack. The other plane's MG just missed a result on the last mobile tank. One of my broken LMGs was lost for good. Throughout all this, my sniper had been wreaking havoc on the Yugoslav's right flank. Without my sniper and my planes I would've stood no chance. Broke my last MG for good on Turn 6, while my mortar finally made itself somewhat useful guarding the western flank. Two Yugoslav squads went berserk. If it seems like my opponent rolled a lot of snakeeyes it's because he did. He also rolled a lot of 10's and 11's for his MG kill stack. But, feeling like a dense jungle PTO game, once I consolidated in the central part of the village it was simply a matter of blocking the way with bodies. Despite all the atrocious luck I had throughout the game, my opponent conceded on Turn 7 with the score 13-8. Which really makes me wonder if the Yugoslavs have much of a chance. If both tanks are knocked out I don't think they do.
2022-01-31(A) Kevin Duval vs Dwayne Duval Yugoslavian winPretty straight-forward (literally). Kept Yugoslav units on wide flank but mutually supportive ... kept pushing forward ... capitalized every weakened point ... kept the CVP balance in my favor and made the Croats cry.
2021-12-11(D) Vilis Pavulans vs Matias Dahlbäck Croatian winHorrible game with dice. Gun broke at first shot, MMGs malfed and then of course the other way around with KIA-shots. The Yugoslav assault was focused in the middle and the approach went fine to the first buildings but then losses were incurred during the next step over the street. As soon as the air support came in one AFV was knocked out and the other immobilised and the next turn a point attack killed a leader and a squad. By turn 6 the yugoslavs had lost 19CVP against 9 and the croats had still a few buildings left and had good chances of just running away to save the last troops.

2021-04-17(D) Rob Schmitt vs Dan Best Croatian winA very close game! A marginal Croatian victory, at the end of the final turn both Croatian and Yugoslavian player had exactly 23 VPs each, due to Victory conditions this gave the Croatian the win. Victory conditions included holding stone buildings. Yugoslav player had captured all but two at the game end. Croatian defense planned was for mostly upfront with a slow withdraw to large stone building in center. Both sides suffered heavy losses. Croatian squad losses high. Yugoslav player lost both tanks during the battle. One by the 65 Inf gun, 1 by Stuka Point attack with MGs. Both Stukas were recalled by boxcar rolls. One Stuka conducted a mistaken attack on Croatian 2 x Squads in a Victory Building hex but luckily it had no effect. A Croatian sniper on the final turn killed the Yugoslav 8-1 leader and broke up his kill stack – this won the game.
