Overview:
With the entry of the Soviet Union into the war on the Allied side, the British and Russians moved quickly to ensure a supply line and prevent Iran from coming in on the Axis side. Another goal was to seize Iranian oil fields. The idea was a swift campaign along the Tigris River to link up British and Russian Armies.
