Overview:

On July 19, North Korean forces entered Taejon, the site of the 24th Infantry Division's headquarters. William Dean personally led the division in its stand at Taejon. The North Koreans quickly surrounded the city and moved in from the west, north and south. For two days, the 34th Infantry fought the advancing North Koreans in bitter house-to-house fighting. North Korean soldiers continued to infiltrate the city, often disguised as farmers. The remaining elements of the 24th Infantry Division were pushed back block by block. Without radios, and unable to communicate with the remaining elements of the division, Dean joined the men on the front lines, hunting the T-34 tanks with the help of the new shaped-charge, armor-piercing 3.5 inch "Super Bazookas", which had only been put into production two weeks before the war. At one point, Dean personally attacked a tank with a hand grenade, destroying it. He also repeatedly directed the fire of US armor in the city while being exposed to North Korean fire. In 1951, Congress voted to award Dean the Medal of Honor for his actions during the defense of Taejon.

2026-05-22(A) Dave Mareske vs Craig Renier North Korean winInteresting scenario with the North Koreans coming from everywhere and trying to exit. The Americans played a patient defense. The 10-3 stayed with a squad and an MMG which did cause some damage, but I think putting him with the BAZ 50 might be more destructive. The T34s stayed away from the bazookas mostly, not giving them a good shot. The Americans made good use of wall advantage which limited the use of the NK reinforcements from SSR 4.
2026-03-07(A) Dan Best vs Kermit Mullins American win5 hrs
2026-03-07(D) Kermit Mullins vs Dan Best American win5 hrsRead the VC very carefully. It's a shame that you need to...but do it. The ability to enter Boards i, j, or k on Turn 3 with a substantial force really messes with this game. As the Americans I just set up completely in the back. And sure enough on Turn 3 all two tanks and 13 squads entered on the west edge right on top of me and a hex away from exiting the south edge. This is not fun ASL. Dan and I played this one all the way to the end...and can't say we enjoyed the five hours involved with playing a DASL scenario...good grief. All ASL is of course fun ASL...but this one did feel like a grind to play. My Americans inflicted enough casualties and destroyed three T-34/85's...with the fourth Recalled due MALF'd MA.
