Overview:
General Hansen's X Armeekorps was attacking west to destroy Dutch forces in the Grebbe Line. The 207th Infantry Division had penetrated the Grebbe Line east of Rhenen and now it was the turn of General Zickwolff's 227th Infantry Division to breach the Dutch outpost line and to seize the town of Scherpenzeel. Here, the Dutch 15th Infantry Regiment occupied well-sited trenches and casemates (having good communications and clear fields of fire) with the support of seven batteries of artillery.
