A full troop of cavalry from the Russian 49th Cavalry Division attacks on boards 70 and 71 to eradicate a mixed
German force of bakers, observation balloon troops and 150mm ART gun crews. Stuka support makes this a truly unique Schwerpunkt scenario.
I read the previous review here saying this one was hard on the Russians and didn't really believe it. The Germans just do not have much, and the Russians have an absolute horde (plus a couple tanks). Well to say the Russians didn't stand a chance was an understatement here. Both tanks were blasted to bits by the well-placed German guns, and the following cavalry wave was shredded to the man. Russians conceded after their first turn. I still think I would pick the Russians in this one as I imagine almost nobody would play as aggressive a defensive setup as I played.

German win
This is a tough one on the Russians. I should have read the scenario notes in the SP magazine first. I pushed up with the cavalry to dismount and be ready to attack on turn 2. The Germans mostly deployed and remained concealed. Even with some good firepower, facing a concealed unit in a stone building is not an easy shot. Putting your 2 SMG units together only yields you a 4 up 3! I was forced into an all out push for CC on turn 4 to try to dislodge the Germans. With 5 CC opportunities. I was ambushed in 2, achieved ambush in 1 and had 2 no ambush. Germans withdrew in 1 ambush, eliminated my units in 2 of the remaining CC (both at 1:1 odds) and held melee in the remaining 2. That killed any chance at victory.
The only Soviet chance is to push into the town on turn 1 and be dismounted and attacking right away. You have to make the reinforcements attack rather than reinforce buildings. If the Germans deploy and hide the guns it is a very tough slog for the Russians.

German win
I pushed hard with the Russians and made pretty good progress early. Had trouble digging the Germans out of the stone buildings next to the woods. I had a great chance on the last turn to win, but... I forgot about the Stuka - which has that auto-pin attack and Dave used that to stop my plan. I thought it was a fun scenario; you have to be very aggressive with the Russian armor and cavalry. Slightly-German balanced (I would play it again as the RUS with the Russian balance), but its a fun one.
