Overview:

Under German-backed dictator Antonescu, Romania joined its Nazi ally in the fateful Operation Barbarossa. After two months of defeats, the Soviet Army in the Ukraine was reeling. Second line units, factory militia and ageing equipment were thrown into the path of the Axis invaders. On 17 August, the Romanian 11th Infantry Division approached the town of Karpova, a key railway junction 30 km northwest of Odessa. The factories and warehouses near the railway station were defended by a ragtag company of Soviet units.

2024-11-16(D) nathan wegener vs Ed Beekman Russian winSetup relatively balanced with some farmboys pretending to have a the MMG at the end of the long street. My farmboys on my left took the whole attack. One stayed behind in the first factory and got a tank and two squads in CC before succumbing. Second factory fell when my armoured trucks rocked up and promptly got destroyed by a critical hit from a tank and a DC. That was enough of a delay to hold out and win by one hex. NrthTexTourney24
2024-02-09(D) Craig Renier vs Steve Cummins Romanian winA weak defense followed by terrible initial dice allowed the Rumanians to push into the village mostly unscathed while the Russians broke on the left and the right. Poor placement of the rubble allowed the Rumanian AFVs mostly free reign in movement. When they finally came into the cross hairs of the HIP'd Russian guns, the AT gun malf'd and the Inf gun missed. On the following turn both crews broke. The guns never fired again. The Russians had a long shot chance to push back the attackers. The had some success, but nothing on the scale necessary to take back 4 factory building hexes and still prevent the Rumanians from gaining any more. The Russians conceded at the end of Turn 5.
