Overview:

Upon the American invasion of Luzon in January 1945, Corregidor became a prime objective for MacArthur. Believing the island to be defended by less than 1,000 Japanse, the task of retaking the island was given to the Sixth Army. Lt. General Krueger, commander of the Sixth, believed an amphibious assault would be too costly in of itself and that the Japanese would not be expecting an airborne assault, Krueger chose to do both.

2024-02-29(D) Jeff B vs Magnus Rimvall Japanese win8 hrsRubble decimated all but four hexes in the main playing area. At first I thought I'd make use of all the stone cover in the west, but Ami setup dictated I take an all-eastern approach. My hope was to quickly dispatch 1/4 of the Ami OB, but they recognized this and extricated themselves nicely, leaving the only casualties on Turn 1 one of my dummy stacks. Lucky for me he was more on the attack than I was, but I still needed to soften him up substantially and threaten his reinforcing paratroopers. The three Ami mortars would make my approach through the trees difficult. Turn 3 was a good one for me, eliminating 3 squads, a leader, and a mortar, while only losing a HS. Turn 4 was very quiet, as I mostly hid in the woods gaining concealment, while he split his force fairly evenly between hooking east and west. My AA gun was broken and abandoned, while smoke continued to play a crucial role. I grabbed full control of the easternmost rubble. Turn 5 was horrible for the Amis, as his dice completely abandoned him. I was rolling very average, but my monster kills sticks didn't need much to make him roll MCs, which he failed miserably. His big mortar broke down for good. Turn 6 saw more of the same, with him getting a pasting in the eastern woods. He did evict me quite resoundingly from my western post, but his last mortar HS boxcarred out. I was then able to safely put a wall of HS between him and any hope of shots on my men comfortably sitting in the rubble. My two HMGs alone there would be enough to win the game, and I had much more than that. A bit of a strange game with all the randomness, and I think it could be made better by using full paradrop rules rather than the pseudo ones invoked
