Overview:

The Polish 23rd Infantry Division of Group Slask defended a fortified zone that protected the industrial center of Katowice. While German armor attempted to break through elsewhere, the German 8th Infantry Division attacked into the heart of the fortifications. They were unable to break the lines on 1 September. They launched another attack on the following morning. The 8th had the benefit of a self-propelled ‘88’ company of its Panzerjager Battalion 8. Initially used as artillery, they were called forward to fire directly at the bunkers.

2022-08-13(A) Simon Staniforth vs DrawWe gave this one a play really as a practice for me as the Germans assaulting a Fortified position, ROAR has this strongly pro Polish and it did feel a tough ask. The Poles have plenty of MGs (in pillboxes) with which to set up criss crossing FLs and the ART pieces are effective against the infantry, even having the potential for Canister. The Bunker Busting half tracks can be useful but with a B11 are also fragile and I broke 2 of the Guns in the first 3 shots! The Radio also went kaput early and then Xd out but given this was a “friendly” my opponent allowed this to be reinstated only for the manning SMC to be immediately taken out by the Sniper. Such is ASL and it clearly wasn’t going to be my day so we called it in T4, a couple of PBs had been taken but there clearly wasn’t the time to achieve the full VC

2019-07-11(D) Paolo Cariolato vs Gaetano Girelli In progressInteresting but quite static scenario, at least from polish point of view, you get an interesting puzzle to solve, but after that is just waiting for the mace to fall in the form of DC and FT covered by SMOKE. We played with one less mortar, squad and wire for the defender and it balance things out. German must take great care in not exposing his vehicles and also protect them from the sniper. Take note that playing this FtF can be difficult with and insane stacking in the fortified and bunkered area (I choose the north-eastern part of the board).
