A report had come to the 8th Burma Rifles that a force of 50 to 100 Japanese were in a village east of Moulmein. The Sikh's D Company was detatched to deal with them. Marching down the road they saw four British trucks crammed with troops heading for Moulmein. D Company prepared to greet the long-awaited reinforcements. As the trucks approached, a light machine gunner named Lance Nailk Jwala Singh recognized the troops as Japanese and opened fire on them.
