Overview:
During the frontal assault on the fortified hilltop launched by the 32nd Infantry Division, German troops were stopped in the tracks by the combined fire from the Maxim Gorki I fortification and a nearby AA battery. In order for the attack to go forward, this flanking fire had to be silenced. While fresh troops were being brought up to continue the main assault, the remaining strength of the 132nd was to be thrown against this thorn in the German side.Attacker: German (132nd Infantry Division)
